Style sheets instruct your browser on how to present the web page information. The table below enables you to judge how capable is your browser of handling them.
The test does not work by identifying which browser you are using. Instead, it tests the capabilities of the browser directly, giving to it style sheet information at several levels of sophistication in order to determine which levels it can cope with.
| Colour of the "Browser Test" heading at the top of this page |
Browser |
|---|---|
Black (or the default text colour in the case of text browsers) |
Your browser does not support style sheets or you have switched them off, most likely because you prefer that. This site will be displayed for you in a simple monochrome style but nevertheless neatly and legibly. |
Orange |
Your browser does support style sheets but it is an old one with very limited capabilities, e.g. it could be Netscape Navigator 4 or Netscape Communicator. This site will be displayed for you in a simple style but nevertheless neatly and legibly. However, you will have problems with some web sites, and with increasing numbers of them. You should most definitely upgrade if you can. |
Green |
Your browser is one that lacks some increasingly important style sheet capabilities, e.g. it could be Internet Explorer 5 for Windows (e.g. 5.0 or 5.5). Internet Explorer 5 for Windows will display most sites reasonably well, but if there is an upgrade available to you, you should seriously consider it. |
Blue |
Your browser is reasonably competent with many aspects of style sheets but is nevertheless lacking in several areas, e.g. it could be Internet Explorer 6. |
Red without a text shadow effect |
Your browser is reasonably competent with many aspects of style sheets but is nevertheless lacking in a few areas, e.g. it could be Internet Explorer 7. |
Red with a text shadow effect |
You have a modern browser with style sheet capabilities beyond those of Internet Explorer 7, e.g. it could be Firefox, Opera or Safari. |
