It is impossible to completely avoid eating GM foods. Supermarkets stock many GM foods, unlabelled as such. In the US, anyone can legally use GM techniques to develop a new variety, then place the goods on the market. There is no legal requirement to let anyone, e.g. the FDA, know about it.
But we can reduce the harm by taking the following actions.
We can buy non-gm foods. There is advice about that here and here.
We can grow some of our own food. By growing suitable crops, and using modern methods, this takes far less time than one might imagine.
Not only does this provide us with a source of non-GM food, it can provide foods rich in antioxidants, etc., that to some extent counter the harm done to us by the GM foods from the stores.
We can also influence politicians, manufacturers and store owners.
We can make our views known to our elected government representatives.
We can ask our stores which of their products contain genetically modified organisms. We can inform them of our reasons for wishing to avoid them.
The greater the number of people doing this, and the more often that they do so, the greater will be extent to which the stores are motivated to stock non-gm foods.
Are our governments doing enough to protect us from the dangers of GM foods?
The real reason that genetically modified foods can damage your health
It's not what most people think.
What evidence is there that genetically modified foods have ever harmed anyone?
