Nappy Rash

A method of treating nappy rash, used many years ago, was to apply eggwhite to the rash.

The reason that this works has to do with the nature of eggshells. The shell of a hen's egg is porous and can allow bacteria to enter the egg and cause spoilage.

So the hen has evolved a mechanism to deal with that. The eggwhite has antibacterial properties. So when applied to nappy rash, it kills the bacteria that cause the rash.

My wife was at one time a hospital nurse working in a special care baby unit. One of the staff knew of the eggwhite remedy and suggested using it. The staff found it to be very successful.

That was purely a private initiative, not official hospital policy. Probably it would have been frowned upon by the hospital authorities. Medical training is very much controlled by the big pharmaceutical companies who would lose sales of antibiotics, UV lamps, etc. if there were a switch to using eggs instead. To understand these matters, follow the money.

You should under no circumstances try any of the home remedies on this site without checking with your doctor. There may be some reason why they are not applicable in your case. We are not doctors but would give the same warning even if we were. Only your own doctor knows your (and your baby's) medical history.
